Wearing a properly fitted ostomy belt provides comfort, support, and peace of mind. At Stealth Ostomy Wear, we’ve helped thousands of people find the right fit — and it all starts with an accurate measurement. Whether you’re new to ostomy life or upgrading your gear, this step‑by‑step guide will walk you through how to measure your waist and flange size for the best Stealth Band possible.
Why the Right Fit Matters
A Stealth Band that fits well can:
✅ Prevent leaks and appliance shifting ✅ Reduce skin irritation and pressure points ✅ Provide discreet support under clothing ✅ Help you stay active and confident ✅ Accommodate physical activity, work, and rest
What You’ll Need
A flexible measuring tape (or substitute with a standard ID) A mirror or helper (optional, but useful) Your ostomy pouch in place (worn as usual)
Step-by-Step: How to Measure for a Stealth Band
1. Put on Your Ostomy Appliance
Make sure your pouch is on and in your normal position — vertical, horizontal, or diagonal.
2. Avoid Measuring Directly Over the Stoma
You should not measure directly over the center of your stoma or appliance. Instead, measure the area where the band will naturally rest just above and below the stoma. You’re measuring your body, not the pouch or flange.
3. Wrap the Measuring Tape Around Your Torso
Wrap it so it circles your body at the level where the band will sit. It should feel snug, not tight.
4. Record the Measurement
Note the number in inches where the tape comfortably meets. This is your band size.
No Measuring Tape? Use Your ID Card!
Most people carry a quick measuring tool in their wallet without even realizing it. A standard driver’s license or ID card is about:
2¼ inches tall 3¼ inches wide
That just happens to match our two standard flange opening sizes:
Small Flange Opening: 2¼″ Large Flange Opening: 3¼″
📝 Tip: If your flange is between sizes, go slightly larger. A flange opening that’s too small can press against your pouch and limit drainage.
Quick FAQ Recap
🌀 What if my weight fluctuates?
Our bands are adjustable, but if your weight changes often (±10 lbs), consider sizing up or choosing a Custom Stealth Band.
🏋️♀️ What if I have a hernia or high-output pouch?
We recommend one of our more adjustable styles, which offer added flexibility and support for more complex needs.
💦 Can I get it wet?
Yes! Our materials are water-resistant — perfect for showering, swimming, or hot days.
📐 How do I tell you my pouch orientation?
Just let us know during the ordering process if you wear it vertically, horizontally, or diagonally — and we’ll design the band to match.
