What You’ll Need

A flexible measuring tape (or substitute with a standard ID) A mirror or helper (optional, but useful) Your ostomy pouch in place (worn as usual)

Step-by-Step: How to Measure for a Stealth Band

1. Put on Your Ostomy Appliance

Make sure your pouch is on and in your normal position — vertical, horizontal, or diagonal.

2. Avoid Measuring Directly Over the Stoma

You should not measure directly over the center of your stoma or appliance. Instead, measure the area where the band will naturally rest just above and below the stoma. You’re measuring your body, not the pouch or flange.

3. Wrap the Measuring Tape Around Your Torso

Wrap it so it circles your body at the level where the band will sit. It should feel snug, not tight.

4. Record the Measurement

Note the number in inches where the tape comfortably meets. This is your band size.

No Measuring Tape? Use Your ID Card!

Most people carry a quick measuring tool in their wallet without even realizing it. A standard driver’s license or ID card is about:

2¼ inches tall 3¼ inches wide

That just happens to match our two standard flange opening sizes:

Small Flange Opening: 2¼″ Large Flange Opening: 3¼″
